Fifth grade students finished their computer programming project by creating their own version of a Pong Video Game. Students used the open source programming software, Scratch, created by MIT Labs. If you are interested in learning single thread linear programming, please use this link to the MIT Labs webpage.
If you want to see the students' projects, you will need to download the trial version of Scratch at the MIT website or go to www.scratch.mit.edu

Fifth grade students finished their anti-bullying campaign by making claymation movies with Windows Media Player. Ms. Day's and Mr.Mosley's classes showed their creative spirit by creating public service announcements to stop bullying in our school.
Please take a moment to download these movie clips to your desktop. We hope that you will be inspired and join the national campaign to stop bullying and teasing in our schools.

On March 4th, Nickajack students participated in the national campaign, Read Across America. Thirty-five dads were guest readers and Cat in the Hat made a surprise visit to our school. It was day to celebrate reading and all who love to read. Thanks to all who made this a great celebration!

The Six Flags Reading Contest will end on Monday, February 25, 2008. Students must return their reading logs to their classroom teacher on or before February 25th. If you need a reading log, please see your teacher for copies or list the book titles on a separate sheet of paper.
Six Flags tickets will be awarded in May and distributed with the your report card.

The fifth grade students have completed their digital movies. They have been posted here for your viewing. You will need to download the file to your desktop and use Windows Media Player to view the files.
To view these files successfully, you will need to do the following steps:

If you want to see the titles for the AR Program, please use the following link. This link will be active through January 2008, then it will be removed and placed on the Nickajack website.
All fifth grade students are making computerized movies using Photo Story 3 in their computer classes. Students can download this free software from the Microsoft website. Click here for the link.
Students may use this software to create their own movies at home and submit them to the Technology Fair. See last month's posting for specific information about the fair.

The computer classes have just finished their Virtual Museum projects. Some of the projects will be displayed on this blog for the next few weeks. The fifth graders just started their Virtual Museum project. Students will be building a room in perspective with Microsoft's PowerPoint. Later, they will add the design elements of color, texture, clip art, audio and video links to their rooms. Lastly, students will research the Internet for the relevant facts and multimedia files to complete their Civil War museum.
