Claymation Project

Some third grade classes had the wonderful opportunity to start their claymation project.  Unfortunately, the students did not get the chance to finish the technology component of this project.

Here are the directions to complete the project:

  • Make creatures from clay.  A slow drying clay works best.
  • Take pictures of the creature as it depicts the storyline of the movie.  Digital camera or a cell phone will work fine for this activity.
  • Download the pictures to the desktop of your computer.
  • Open PowerPoint or any slide show program.
  • Using the INSERT command, import the claymation picture into the slide...one picture per slide.
  • Using the INSERT command, import music or narration behind each picture.
  • Set the timing and play features, so the slide show will play automatically.
  • Play your slide show and enjoy your creative abilities!

Push Up and Create Contest for Third Graders

Third graders are learning about graphic arts in media.   The students are designing a sleeve for the Nestle' Push Up Pops Contest.   All third graders are invited to share in this unique experience; however, the students must have parental permission to be eligible for the grand prize of $1,000 or the individual prize of $250.00.    Click here for permission slip: Download Permission slip (Word document).

You may visit the Nestle' website for more information or to obtain the design template.    Please click on the following link: Nestle' Pushup Contest.      There is no obligation to participate in this contest.   It is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about computers and the field of graphic arts.

Congratulations Mr. Obama!

The third graders are putting the final touches on their Black History PowerPoint projects that highlight the accomplishments of our new president, Mr. Barack Obama.

Students' PowerPoint projects should have the following elements: four colorful slides, animation, images, and/or music.  Students who successfully complete the project will be treated to a small reward party.

Some of the exemplary projects will be posted on this blog later this month.  Please visit this site again,  so you can see the progress the students are making with their computer skills.

Six Flags Contest Was a Huge Success!

Congratulations to the 134 Nickajack students who completed the Six Flags Reading Contest on February 25, 2009.   These students will receive one FREE daily pass to the Six Flags Theme Park in May.   The tickets are good for one free admission to a participating Six Flags theme park from June 15, 2009 to August 9, 2009 only, and cannot be replaced if lost, stolen, or damaged.

Each Nickajack student will receive the FREE Six Flags ticket with his/her final report card in June.

This year the Six Flags Corporation will offer each student and/or teacher, who received a complimentary ticket, an offer to purchase four additional admission tickets at the Read to Success discout price.  This price will be a major saving over the normal admission price.   Discount ticket offer is redeemable online only.

Please return to this blog for additional information about the Six Flags tickets in May.

I hope to see everyone at Six Flags this summer and continue to read!

Typing Practice

The third graders have been learning keyboarding for the past six weeks.   Of course, we must move on to other computer skills, but your child can still practice his/her typing using the following link(s).   The first link is from the British Academy, so don't let the accent distract your child from his/her typing.

Enjoy!

Jacket 2 Jacket Winners Are Recognized!

Congratulations to the sixty-six Nickajack students who completed the Jacket 2 Jacket Reading Contest.   All participants will be recognized at the Georgia Tech Basketball game Friday, December 5th, at 7:00 PM.   Students received their complimentary tickets Thursday and were encouraged to wear GOLD to show their support of the Georgia Tech Athletic Department.

Parents can purchase additional tickets at the Coliseum Box Office for two dollars each.

For parking information, please review the press release below from  the Georgia Tech Athletic Department:

Directions to the Coliseum:   Travel I-75 to exit 250 and turn on to 10th Street.  Travel towards the Georgia Tech campus and turn onto Bobby Dodd Way for the Coliseum.

Parking will be in the main AMC lot located adjacent to the interstate off of 10th St. That lot could easily fill up though. If it is full, Peter's Lower Parking Deck will be open. It is located at the end of Fowler St. If you take a left onto Fowler, off of 10th Street, you will go through one light and end at stop sign. At the stop sign veer right into the parking garage ahead.

As for MARTA, the easiest way get to the Coliseum, is to exit at the Midtown station. You will come out at 10th Street. Walk in the direction of the interstate and when you cross it, the arena will be on your left. It is less than a half mile.

If you cannot visit the Coliseum tonight at the Georgia Tech campus, then watch the game on the GA Tech website via video streaming.  Please go to www.gatech.edu , then choose the Sports link> Women's Basketball> Georgia Tech vs. Georgia.

Thanks for participating in the Jacket 2 Jacket Reading Contest.   Go YELLOW JACKETS!
