Excused Homework for Shark Report Rough Drafts

Hi Scientists and Parents,

There has been a concern that you all are working diligently on your projects at home and can't fit another thing in your schedules to complete the Rough Draft and edit on your own.  You are excused from this homework assignment.  We will build in extra time on Wednesday/Thursday to complete this in class.  I know you all are busy with these projects, regular classroom assignments/projects, and spring activities outside of school, so I apologize for adding to your stress.

See you next week,

Mrs. Mack

Money Matters - Thomas Edison

Hi Money Matters Friends,

I received a question about the homework.

Here it is:  "What do we do for homework?  We looked on the blog and didn't see anything"  Here is my reply:

It's on pages section on red skinny to the left under "Money Matters."  You may also search Thomas Edison to see what things he "just invented," "just made money doing (entrepreneur)," or he invented and made money.  List those under the correct column 5-10 should be enough to get the idea.

If you have questions, this is the most effiecient, accurate way to get your answers.

Hope this helps,
Mrs. Mack

Kindergarten and First Grade Big Box Projects & SOARS Info for all

Hi Students and Parents,

Here is clarification of the box project.  Hope this helps.

We read a book called The Big Brown Box. In this story, Sam used a big brown box as a house, cave, boat, and spaceship. We brainstormed other ideas for a big brown box. I challenged them to find a box small enough to hold in their hands and make it into anything they want except those ideas from the book. They may use one of our brainstorm ideas. Complete your project at home and bring it to school on your next SOARS day to share your creation with us.

SOARS INFORMATION ONLY:

Our gifted population is growing at Nickajack.  With this growth comes change, therefore, there have been some changes in the SOARS program.  Kindergarten will meet every other week so that everyone will be able to continue with SOARS until the end of the year.  First and Third  Grade SOARS classes were merged to one class.  Those students continuing SOARS this year performed well on the tests for gifted eligibility.  While the scores weren't high enough in 3 of 4 areas for Target, the new group of SOARS students performed just below the criteria in more than one area- one of the areas had to be achievement or mental abilities- for consideration.  Everyone in Second Grade will continue with SOARS; however, I will see them on a 3 week rotation.  4th and 5th remain the same.  If you have question or comments, please let me know.  I will be available during Conference Week if you would like to stop by my classroom.  If I am not there, I will be back after finishing a conference with another teacher and parents.  The best way to conference with me is to reserve a time.  You may e-mail me and I'll let you know when I am available.  We can plan with or around your child's regular conference time.

Here are the days and grades served for SOARS: Mon.- Second; Tues.- Third; Wed.- Fourth; Thurs.- Fifth; Friday- First and Kindergarten (during 1st grade specials).

Have a great end of your week and weekend,

Mrs. Mack
