Parents,

One month to go..this year has gone by so fast. I wanted to check in and give you an update on what is happening as we finish up our year.

It has been a pleasure having a student from Kennesaw State Universtiy, Marilyn Carter-Buford. She has done a great job with the kids and I think she has learned alot. She will start her Student Teaching in the Fall. Her last day with us in May 1st.

Many assessments are going to be done as we finish up and its important that all students try and stay focused. In placing them in Third Grade classrooms, I want there to be good end of the year representation for your child.

Classroom Needs: Kleenex, Kleenex, and Kleenex :)

Reminders:

• April 25th- Last PTA (new officers elected)
• April 30th- Field Trip to Chattahoochee Nature Center

        Please remember to send in your child's lunch in a plastic bag that we     

        can throw away. This is a sack lunch day (peanut butter sandwich)

        Chaperones...please remember that we are leaving at 9:30. You can

        either follow the buses or meet us there at 10:00.

• April 30th- Second Grade Chick-fil A Night 5-8
• All payments made to the school for ASP, lunch, and anything else needs to be in cash. NES is not accepting anymore checks this late in the year.
• Lost and Found is loaded with items so if your child is missing anything, please check it out before the year ends
• Warm weather to come. Students are allowed to bring in water bottles for their desks to hydrate
• May 3rd-Media Center's last day for student check-out
• May 9th- Field Day (shirts are in and with me...I will pass them out as we get closer to the day)
• May 15th- End of Year Assembly @8:10
• May23rd-Last day of School

    

 

 

March-April

Parents,

Hard to believe that we are entering the Fourth Quarter. This school year has flown by..I wanted to get you up to date on some things in our class.

The students just finished up with thir benchmarks for the Third Quarter.They did a good job. We have one quarter left and I know as the weather starts to get warmer, the students start to get distracted and ansy. Pleae continue to encourage good behavior practices. Remember you can log on to www.picasso.com to view what your students are learning. I am trying to keep our days structered and focused. Continue reading and practicing math. The students love the www.myon.com website for reading practice.

Thank you for the Valentine's Day  and Birthday gifts. You are all so thoughtful.

The Book Fair was a success too. Thank you for purchasing some books for me that I can add to my collection.

Report Cards went home on Friday. As I stated, behavior tends to slip at this time of year, so I am planning  to keep the kids focused on learning and not outside.

Thank you to the parents who come in and volunteer to read to the students on Friday. They love that special treat.

Reminders:

Please send in Doctor notes with your child if they are out. I want to make sure the office does not mark the absence unexcued.

Field Day t-shirts money is due by the 28th of March. This will be the last and final time to order. We do not have many ordered so far so I wanted to remind you. They are doing the ordering differently this year so not as to not have a mass order for the school.

Updates for February

Parents,

Hard to believe how fast the time flies...It is already the end of February. Students are doing great. I wanted to update you on a couple of things and let you know of some classroom needs.

• Valentine's Day card exchange is on Feb.13th
• Field trip to Cinderella is on Feb.14th-Please bring have your child bring their lunch if they are not wanting a peanut butter sandwich
• No School on Friday the 15th and Monday the 18th
• Book It reading log is due Feb. 25th (no later)

The Black History projects are amazing. They are out on display in the hallway.

Classroom Needs:

• Eraser tops
• Air freshener refills (plug ins)
• Hand sanitizer
• always glue sticks
• Treat box stuff
• Headphones for our listening center

Reminders

Parents..Just wanted to give you a few reminders and updates

• Sending home the parent letter from Picasso about Math for this third nine weeks
• Keep reading for reading logs/book it reading log
• January the 25th is our 100th day of school!!!
• Valentine's Day information coming soon
• We are  welcoming a student from Kennesaw State University.  She will be with us one day a week until March and then every day until May. Her name is Mrs. Carter-Buford.
• Composition books and crayons...Some students are running low on empty pages in some of their subject composition books. Please check with them and see if they are in need of a new one. We are using all of the ones that were turned in for supplies at the beginning of the year. This is also true with crayons. I would say that we have less than 10 boxes left. We are using crayons on table tops and will be placed in centers here in the next couple of weeks.
• We are collecting box tops as a school. We all received a box that will be used for daily drop ins and on Fridays they will be collected and totaled up. Please send any in.

Thank you for sending cans in for those that are in need. Every little bit can help.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Thank you for all of your sweet cards and gifts. The Holiday party was alot of fun and happy that you were able to join us. Looking ahead I just wanted to give you all a few reminders

* A Book It information sheet and reading log was sent home Jan. 8. Please do this with your child and you will earn a free ticket to Six Flags

*It is cold outside, but we are still fortunate enough to go out most days so please continue sending your child in with a jacket. Thanks

*Media Center this week on Jan. 9th for check out

*Third Quarter Math Parent Letter coming soo.

No School on March 21st for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Happy Holidays from Ms.Estrada's Class

It is the end of 2012 and Ms. Estrada's Class wanted to wish you all a happy and safe holidays. The kids will return to school on January 8, 2013. This year has really gone by fast. This class is absoloutely wonderful and I will miss them.

Over the holidays, hopefully the kids will keep reading. We are going to the media center the day before we get out so they can get 2 new good books for the break. No homework over the break!!! Relaxation and Fun is their assignment. :)

A few reminders in regards to our Holiday Party on Wednesday (December 19)

• The party starts at 12:45
  
• If you signed up for an item to bring, you may send it in the morning (If you already have done so, it is being held in my room)
• We are short on books for the Book Exchange. So if you could also send in your wrapped book with your child if you have not already done so in the morning that would be great. I do not want anyone to feel left out.
  
• Parents are welome to attend :)

After the holiday break...if the kids can come back with a sharpener for their desk, that would be greatly appreciated. We spend alot of time sharpening pencils and it can be very distracting during instruction. Thank you.

Also please keep Pokemon cards at home....that would also be greatly appreciated.

November News

 Parent Notes and Reminders

Hope you all had an enjoyable week long break over this Thanksgiving Holiday. It is amazing that we are approaching December and the end of our Second Quarter. Just wanted to keep you up to date on a few things.

Reminders:

• Please encourage your child to check out library books that he/she can read and also check out  some that are Accelerated Reader books. These books have comprehension tests on the computer that I will allow them to take during the day. All are aware of how to check out AR books and take tests
• Keep up with monthly reading logs
• Reminder that homework is not graded. It is reviewed for completeness.
• Project to come this week
• Please send in jacket/sweatshirt and the appropriate shoes. Weather is colder and we are still going out for recess as long as the temperature allows us

Classroom Needs

• Hand Sanitizer- we have tons of soap, but hand sanitizer is what is preferred. I will gladly trade out with you, as we are in dire need
• Eraser Tops- we go through this little things it seems pretty fast.

• To my parents for taking time out to come in and make copies, be a mystery reader, provide us with the things our class needs. All is greatly appreciated

• Thank you so much for all of the beautiful things for Teacher Appreciation Week!!! So thoughtful :)
• Reminders
• May  8th- Career Day (kids can dress up in their chosen profession
• May 10th-Field Day (shirts will be sent home on Tuesday) if you did not purchase one, our color is red and please send your child in shorts. Water bottles can be brought from home. Sack lunch on Thursday and Friday with white milk only
  
•   CRCT went well and I will continue with end of the year assessments
• Please encourage positive behavior and working well with others. As field day approaches, I need all students to display kindness and team work
• If not already done so, please return all media center items. Report Cards are held if items are not returned
• Please send in self addressed envelopes with 4 stamps so that I can mail your child's report card home
  
• Any other pertinent information will be sent home in their agendas or red folders
• May 23rd- Early Release @12:30

March News

Just wanted to give you a few reminders:

• Thank you for participating with the Book Fair and sending your kids in to purchase books. They all really enjoyed the preview...and thanks to the parents for helping add to our library
• Please sign agendas daily. I make behavior comments and colors in there and want you to be aware of student behavior in class
• Nickajack's GIMME 5 campaign was a success. Thanks for your contributions to the campaign
• Field Trip to the Fernbank is April 10th. Many of you have sent permission slips, but if you have misplaced yours, let me know and I will send a new one home
• Field Day t-shirt orders have been sent home. Our team color is Red. The deadline for orders is the 23rd so please get them in when you can. Will be asking for volunteers as time gets closer
• Please continue to reinforce good behavior at school. Spring Break is coming and the kids are ready, but we have alot more to learn
• Accelerated Reader is practiced alot more in our class and I continue to encourage AR check out
• Report Cards will be sent home March 21, 2012 (Wednesday)
• Jump Rope for heart is on March 14th, March 21st, and March 28 before school. Please send in a dollar for Relay for Life
• Science Night is March 15th from 6:00-7:30
• Character Assembly on March 26th @8:10
• Continue reading at home and practicing coprehension skills

Parents,

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your holiday. I wanted to send out a couple reminders to you before the break.

• Keep collecting Box Tops
• Keep practicing Math Addition and Subtraction facts
• Please let me know ahead of time if you plan on bringing anything in for birthdays. Need to make sure all kids are allowed to have the treats.
• Keep in mind the new attendance policy (refer to information that was sent home)
• Please bring in canned foods to support our drive for those in need
•  If your child does not have one already, send in a pencil sharpener to keep in their boxes.
