Nickajack Walking Club

Nickajack Walking Club

Who:  Any 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student interested in getting healthier

What:  A chance to get some great exercise and socialize with your friends 

When:  Monday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 starting November 26th

(Parents are responsible for providing transportation for students.  Parents may enroll students in the after school program if they are unable to pick them up at 3:30.)

Where:  Students will meet in the P.E. classroom and then make their way to the Silver Comet Trail

Why:  Why not?

National Standards for Physical Education

Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

A physically educated person:

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

Nike 5K for Kids

I enco[urage everyone to participate in this event.  It is a great way to help support Nickajack's PE program and get some exercise at the same time.  All the information is below but if you have any other questions feel free to contact me. 

Date: Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Start Time: 5K: 8:00 am; Let Me Play 1 Mile: 9:00 am

Location: Piedmont Park, Atlanta (located at 400 Park Dr. NE)

Average Weather Conditions: Avg. High: 65; Avg. Low: 44.

Distance: All entrants may choose between a certified 5K (3.1 miles) or Let Me Play 1 Mile distance. The 5K is timed using ChampionChip timing chips distributed on race day. The Let Me Play 1 Mile is not timed and is encouraged for kids 12 and under and their parents, however both events are open to runners and walkers of all ability levels. Parents are encouraged to participate in the same event as their children.

Fees & Deadlines:

  • Entry is $20 total until February 27th (postmarked), or February 29th online at active.com. Regular Entry includes $15 Entry Fee and $5 T-shirt Fee.
  • You may register in person at NIKETOWN Atlanta, at Phipps Plaza, if space is available, until March 7th.

Cause: 100% of the Entry Fee will be donated to local school Physical Education, play and athletic programs. Each runner may designate which school receives their $15 (Regular) Entry Fee. All Greater Atlanta Area Schools that are 501 (c)(3) are eligible to receive donations.

I would like to welcome you to Nickajack's Physical Education page.  The first half of the year has been wonderful and I look forward to bigger and better things as we round out the year.
