2011-2012 school year is off to a great start. Thank you to all the parents who have offered their support in the class this year. As things continue to settle, I will have many voluteer opportunities inside and outside of the classroom.
News and Notes

We will also be presenting some information on the 4th grade curriculum.
Labor Day, School Holiday - Monday 9/5
Curriculum Updates
Math - Your child continues to work on place value from millions - hundredths. They are practicing rounding numbers, writing numbers in word form, standard form, and expanded form. View your child's Tuesday folder and nightly homework to see examples of their work. In the coming weeks, we will turn our attention to algebra!
Writing - The students are writing their goals for the year. As they write they are being introduced to the 5 stages of writing (prewrite, draft, revise, edit, publish). I look forward to having their goals completed so that you can see them during Parent Orientation.
Spelling - As we tackle the many spelling words of the year, your child has been practicing each morning and will have weekly homework in spelling. Each student was given a combination of spelling activities. Their responsibility is to complete the activities to equal the number of points required for the week. The words are given on Monday and the test is on Friday. Each student should use the week to practice the words and complete the activity. This week's point total is 40. On Friday, each student should turn in their spelling activities equal to 40 points.
Social Studies - Before we began learning about the history of America, the students have been learning some important economic terminology. They have been doing this as they complete their Planetary Economics book within the classroom. This is important because throughout the year the students will need to explain how many decisions during the growth of America were/are based on economics.
Reminders:
Transportation changes should be made in writing as early as possible within the day. Emails are accepted, however, I am not always available to check email throughout the day and may miss a transportation change. Notes work best if you know in advance.
If your child is being checked out early we try as hard as we can to have them to the office when they are called. Please understand that your child more than likely will be engaged in some activity and it may take them 5 or 10 minutes to pack up.
Tuesday folders are extremely important. Not only are there important school papers, but your childs' graded papers. I encourage you to review their papers with them whenever you can.
