Money Matters

Coins800

We are learning all about money during math time beginning this week.

First Grade Cobb County Math Standards for the First Nine Weeks of School include:

·    Make fair trades involving combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters

·    Identify bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) by name and value

·    Make fair trades involving combinations of bills

In order for your child to master these skills, he or she will need much practice at home and school. Please work with your child at home by showing him or her real coins and bills.  Discuss the differences between each coin and bill.  Play store, and allow your child to "purchase" items.  See if your child can give you the same amount of money in different ways.

Happy New Year!

Penguinbaby Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break! It's hard to believe that we are already half way through our first grade year. Along with a new year comes New Years Resolutions.  One of my resolutions is to become more "technologically savvy"!  My goal is to utilize this blog as a tool for parent/ teacher communication.  Please use this blog as a reference for your child's homework, class news, websites, and more!  Thank you again for supporting our class and my quest to improve our communication.
