We are looking forward to meeting with parents and guardians this week for conferences. We will discuss report cards, goals, strengths, and areas of improvement for your child. Please remember that the students will be dismissed at 12:10 this week. Dismissal changes need to be in writing. Thank you!
We are learning all about money during math time beginning this week.
First Grade Cobb County Math Standards for the First Nine Weeks of School include:
· Make fair trades involving combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters · Identify bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) by name and value · Make fair trades involving combinations of bills In order for your child to master these skills, he or she will need much practice at home and school. Please work with your child at home by showing him or her real coins and bills. Discuss the differences between each coin and bill. Play store, and allow your child to "purchase" items. See if your child can give you the same amount of money in different ways. Also, check out these web sites for more practice: http://www.harcourtschool.com/activity/counting_money/ http://arcytech.org/java/money/money.html http://www.lizardpoint.com/fun/java/buyit/BuyIt.html
What a fabulous start to our first grade year! It was so great to see such a wonderful turn-out at our Open House. We discussed the curriculum and report card for first grade, as well as policies and procedures.
What's going on in our class?
Remember- Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday all first grade students will be taking the COGAT test. We need all students to be on time to school. Please make sure your child has a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast.
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break! It's hard to believe that we are already half way through our first grade year. Along with a new year comes New Years Resolutions. One of my resolutions is to become more "technologically savvy"! My goal is to utilize this blog as a tool for parent/ teacher communication. Please use this blog as a reference for your child's homework, class news, websites, and more! Thank you again for supporting our class and my quest to improve our communication.
