Hello everyone!
Just wanted to let you know that if you missed the art show, it's not too late to order your child's framed artwork! You can order the original until the 5th of February and a framed print for up to a year!! You can also order as many as you like (i believe each additional frame is a bt cheaper).
The cost is $32.05 with 20% going to the art supply budget! With the donations we are able to buy really great equipment and supplies! Plus the framed work makes a great gift and is a beautiful way to show off your child's artistic talent and progession throughout their early years.
To order all you need is your child's ID assigned to them by First Artworks (please email me for this ID, it is on the invitation if you still have it). Go to www.firstartworks.com and follow the steps to order!
Thank you so much for coming to the show and thank you to my wonderful PTA volunteers! We look forward to a bigger and better turnout next year!
I hope everyone will be able to attend the First ArtWorks show at Nickajack!
Student art will be on display from 5 - 8:30 p.m. in the Gym and you can even purchase your art in a frame! A portion of the proceeds goes to the art room so we can purchase materials for you to use!
Hope to see you all there!

This is just a brief overview of what each grade will be focusing on for art this year!
Kindergarten will be Discovering Art, learning all the new and fun things you can create with your imagination!
First Grade is Exploring Art, where we will dive in a bit more to artists and the world of art around us.
Second Grade will be "traveling" to view Art Around the World, looking at Asian Fans, Aboriginal paintings and Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
Third Grade will also be "traveling" but this time throughout time, to see how art of the past evolved into the art we make today!
Forth Grade will be looking at little closer at the work created here in America and how it can be a part of our Freedom of Speech!
Fifth Grade will be getting ready for the big leagues! We will study more about the theories and science of art, and how it influences the more modern artists of today.
I am very passionate about what I teach and how I involve students. We can create amazing art that can influence how students feel about the world, other cultures, and more importantly, themselves. Art has the ability to instill confidence and allow students to show their emotions in a non-verbal capacity. I take the projects seriously and I expect my students to as well. This can be reflected in their work and their grades. Art is interesting to grade..it cannot be based on talent, but more on the application of the taught concept, following directions or steps, completely the assignment with "flair!"
An O on a report card shows that this student has gone "above and beyond" what I have asked them to do with each project. They are showing me something truly "outstanding."
An S represents the average grade...IT IS NOT A BAD MARK! :) This simply means that in the art room they are doing exactly what is asked of them, completing the projects correctly, following directions, etc. They are still learning the concepts and there is room to grow!
An N means there is cause for concern. This simply means the student is not participating or following directions at all. If a student at least tries to do the assignment, doing their personal best, they will receive an S, but lack of any effort requires an N.
If you have questions, concerns, interesting little tid-bits about art in Atlanta, please feel free to email me from the Nickajack home page! :)
Hello wonderful Nickajack students, parents and staff!
My name is Ms. Catie Tappan and so far...I am loving Nickajack!
So how did i get here? Well, since I was very young, I have always loved art! I used to get in trouble in class for doodling too much, instead of doing my work! But after years of studying hard and trying to keep my drawings in my sketchbook, I was accepted into college at the University of Tennessee! It was awesome, I got to draw all day long without getting in trouble! Thats when I knew I wanted to help other students learn to make great art. After I graduated I moved to Daytona Beach Florida, where I taught art at Tomoka ES for 2 years. It was a great place, but I was ready for something new and exciting. I came across Nickajack and knew this is where I wanted to be!
So here I am...and I love it!
